Privacy Policy

Beta edition · Last updated September 29, 2026

Asher helps parents and guardians ask questions, plan the week and keep what matters about their family in one place. This policy explains what information Asher collects, how we use it, who can see it and the choices you have.

The short version: we don’t sell your information or use it for advertising. Your Private Ask chats aren’t visible to the other adult in your family. Asher asks before it first sends your information to our AI provider for a feature, and you can say no. Asher isn’t end-to-end encrypted, and this policy explains when our systems and people can access your content.

About this beta edition

Asher is in beta. This edition of our Privacy Policy describes Asher as it works during the beta. Some features we plan to offer are marked Not available yet. Those features aren’t part of the app yet, and Asher doesn’t collect the information they would use. Before we turn any of them on, we’ll update this policy and tell you in the app.

Not available yet: connecting a Gmail account, AI reading of forwarded email, conversation memory, profile photos, sharing or scanning documents into Asher, public links to Handbook cards, web searches and Plan with Asher outing ideas.

Who we are

Asher is provided by Household Labs, Inc., a Delaware corporation (“Asher,” “we” or “us”). This policy covers the Asher iPhone app and the services that support it. Our website is also covered by our Cookie notice.

Information we collect

Most of what Asher holds is information you choose to give it. Some is created as you use the app, and some comes from services you decide to connect.

Account information

Your name, email address and sign-in details, your role in the family (such as Mom, Dad, Stepparent or Guardian), your confirmation that you’re an adult, and a record of which versions of our terms you accepted. If you sign in with Apple or Google, we receive the basic profile information that service shares with us, such as your name and email address. Apple may share a private relay address instead of your email address. If you invite another adult, we collect their email address to send the invitation.

Family profiles

Details you add about the people in your family, such as preferred names and nicknames, relationships, ages or birthdates, an expected baby, pets, notes about each person, and the emoji or initials and color you choose for a profile. You can also add the Important People in your children’s lives, such as grandparents or sitters. Profile photos: Not available yet.

What you create in Asher

Conversation memory

Not available yet. Asher doesn’t keep summaries of your conversations. Before we add conversation memory, we’ll update this policy, and it will stay off until you turn it on.

Email you forward to Plans

Messages you forward to your family’s Plans Inbox address. See Email and the Plans Inbox. Connecting a Gmail account: Not available yet.

Calendars you connect

If you connect Google Calendar or allow access to Apple Calendar on your iPhone, Asher reads events from the calendars you select, within a limited date range. These can include events that other people created, such as a school, a coach or an employer. When you confirm that an event should go to a connected calendar, Asher writes it there.

Places and location

Addresses and places you add to events or use for a search, and your current location when you choose a feature that uses it, such as Use current location or location sharing. See Location, maps and weather.

Voice input

You can speak a message in Ask and Family Chat instead of typing it. Your iPhone turns your speech into text on the device, and Asher receives only the text. Asher doesn’t record or keep audio, and there are no voice messages.

Documents and photos you share or scan

Not available yet. If Asher appears in your iPhone’s share sheet, it will tell you it can’t save yet.

Subscription information

Apple processes payments for subscriptions bought in the app. We and our subscription-management provider receive your subscription status and transaction identifiers. We don’t receive your full card number.

Device, usage and diagnostic information

Notification tokens for your device, your notification preferences, content-free usage events, usage-allowance information and crash reports. See Analytics and diagnostics.

AI permissions

A record of the AI choices you’ve allowed or turned off, the features included, and which version of the notice you reviewed. These permission records do not include your messages.

Support requests and reports

Messages you send to support and reports you submit about a response or a Handbook note.

Children’s information

Asher is for adults 18 and older. It isn’t directed to children. Children don’t have their own accounts or sign-in, and aren’t meant to use Asher directly.

Parents and guardians can add information about their children, such as names, ages and notes, so Asher’s help fits their family. We treat this information as sensitive:

Emails and calendars often mention other people’s children, for example in a class roster or team list. Asher uses those details only as needed to find your family’s plans. It doesn’t create profiles or Handbook records about children outside your family.

If we learn that a child is using an adult’s account, we’ll restrict that use, let the account owner know, and delete information the child submitted unless we’re required to keep it. If you believe this has happened, email privacy@withasher.app.

How we use information

We don’t sell your personal information. We don’t use it for targeted advertising, and we don’t use your family’s content to train AI models.

What’s private and what’s shared

An Asher family has up to two adults. Some spaces belong to one adult; others are shared by both.

SpaceWho in your family can see it
Private Ask chatsOnly you.
Family ChatBoth adults, including Asher’s replies.
Handbook and family profilesBoth adults, who can view and edit them.
Plans: events, lists and remindersBoth adults, including events from calendars either adult chooses to show in Plans.
Plans InboxBoth adults. This includes email either adult forwards to your family’s Plans Inbox address.
Shared locationBoth adults, only while the sharing adult has it turned on.
Your Settings, AI permissions, device lock and notification preferencesOnly you.

When you save something from a Private Ask chat to the Handbook, or add it to Plans, the item you save becomes shared. The conversation it came from stays private. Asher doesn’t use your private chats to brief the other adult.

“Private” here means private from the other adult in your family. It doesn’t mean our systems can’t process it; see When our staff can access content.

Email and the Plans Inbox

Plans Inbox turns emails about your family’s plans, such as events, appointments, deadlines and to-dos, into suggestions you can review before anything is added to Plans. It’s optional.

Forwarding to your family’s Plans Inbox address

Each family gets a private address for forwarding. Only mail from trusted senders is processed; by default these are the email addresses of the adults in your family, and you can add or remove others. Mail from anyone else is dropped without its content being stored. You can replace the address at any time, which stops the old one immediately.

Asher reads each forwarded message and supported attachments, such as calendar files and PDFs, to find dates and details. During the beta, Asher finds them with automated rules on our own systems, and forwarded email isn’t sent to our AI provider. AI reading of forwarded email: Not available yet.

We keep the original message and attachments for up to 90 days, and the email excerpt and suggestions for up to 180 days.

Forwarded mail is shared in your family’s Plans Inbox. Both adults can see the sender, subject, date, attachment names and up to about 16 lines of text from the message and its attachments, plus any suggestions.

Suggestions wait for your review by default. Your family can turn on a setting that adds complete, clearly dated events from trusted senders automatically. It’s off unless either adult turns it on, and automatically added events can be edited or undone from the Inbox.

Connecting Gmail

Not available yet. Before we offer it, we’ll update this policy to explain what Asher reads, keeps and shares from a connected Gmail account, and the app will explain it before you connect.

Other people’s information in email

Emails often include details about other people, such as teachers, coaches, other parents and other children. Asher uses those details only as needed to understand your family’s plans and doesn’t build records about those people.

Google user data

Asher’s use and transfer to any other app of information received from Google APIs will adhere to the Google API Services User Data Policy, including the Limited Use requirements.

Asher receives Google data only when you sign in with Google or connect Google Calendar. When you sign in with Google, we receive basic profile information, such as your name and email address. When you connect Google Calendar, Asher can see the list of your calendars and reads events from the calendars you select. If you confirm that an event should be added to or changed on your Google Calendar, Asher writes that change.

Location, maps and weather

Places on your events

When you add an address or place to an event, Asher sends it to a mapping provider to find the place, show a map and offer directions. If you tap Open in Maps, your iPhone’s maps app handles the rest.

Weather

To show a forecast, Asher sends a weather provider coordinates rounded to an area of roughly one kilometer, without names or an exact address. These coordinates still describe an approximate location.

Device permission and location sharing

Giving Asher location permission on your iPhone doesn’t turn on sharing with another adult. You can choose Use current location to select a place or search area without sharing a location pin. If you save that place on a shared plan, the other adult can see the plan’s location. You can also type a place or address without giving Asher access to your device’s location.

In the current app, Asher captures device location only while you’re using the app, after you choose a feature that needs it. Background location updates aren’t available.

Sharing your location

Sharing your location is off unless you turn it on from the Plans map. Before your iPhone asks for location permission for sharing, Asher explains what sharing does. It saves a snapshot when you start sharing or tap Update my location. Each snapshot is visible for up to one hour after capture; it doesn’t update as you move or renew automatically.

What the other adult can see. While you’re sharing, the other adult in your family can see your precise shared location as a pin on the family map, and how long ago you shared it. For upcoming events that have a location, they can also see your estimated travel time and when you’d need to leave.

To estimate travel time, Asher sends your shared location and the event’s location to a mapping provider. Tap Stop sharing to end access, and check that Asher confirms it has stopped. If the request fails or you’re offline, the last shared snapshot may remain visible until stopping succeeds or the snapshot expires. Turning off iPhone location permission prevents new captures; it doesn’t remove a snapshot already shared. Children don’t share their location in Asher.

The one-hour sharing limit controls visibility, not deletion from storage. A successful stop clears the active snapshot’s coordinates. Route calculations also store starting and destination coordinates alongside travel estimates. Expired snapshots and route records may remain stored until cleanup runs. See How long we keep information.

Like most apps, Asher relies on other companies to run. These are the service providers we use, what they do and the information involved.

We currently use OpenAI for AI features. We may also use Anthropic or Google (Gemini) to provide the same features, under the same protections. We’ll update this list when our providers change.

We require providers to use your information only to provide their services to us. We use AI providers under business terms, not consumer chatbot services, and those terms don’t allow them to train their models on your family’s content. Where a provider offers it, we choose the shortest data retention available.

You choose how AI can use your information. Each adult can allow personal AI help independently. AI use of saved shared Handbook, profiles and Plans requires every active adult’s permission. AI in Family Chat is a separate choice and also requires every active adult’s permission. The app explains each choice before you allow it. Not now cancels that attempt; it does not prevent joining your family or using available manual features.

If either adult turns shared-information use off, saved family records stay out of subsequent AI requests and AI features that require them pause. An adult who allows personal AI can still ask using information they choose to provide. Earlier chats remain readable, and you can still edit your shared records; old family context is not automatically reused in new requests after the choice changes.

You can turn your own choices on or off in Settings under AI permissions. Turning one off does not recall a request already sent to the provider, delete your saved information, or automatically change your other choices. Memory and Gmail have separate choices when available. AI features and your data explains the groups and individual features.

Web searches: Not available yet. Asher doesn’t search the web to answer questions during the beta.

When we share information

We share information only in these situations:

Public links to Handbook cards: Not available yet.

We don’t sell personal information, and we don’t share it for targeted advertising.

How long we keep information

We keep information only as long as it’s useful to you or we have a specific need, such as security, billing or a legal requirement. When you delete something, it disappears from the app right away. We aim to remove it from our active systems within 30 days. Copies in our backups are removed as those backups expire, and we aim to keep backups for no more than about 35 days. We may keep information longer if the law requires it or it’s subject to a legal hold.

The table shows the longest we aim to keep each kind of information. Where we can, we keep things for less time.

Security

We protect your information with safeguards that include:

Asher is not end-to-end encrypted. No system is perfectly secure. If a security incident affects your information, we’ll notify you as the law requires.

Your controls and rights

In the app, you can:

Your iPhone settings also let you control Asher’s access to location, notifications, the microphone and speech recognition, and Apple Calendar.

Your privacy rights

We give the same privacy rights to everyone who uses Asher in the United States, whatever state you live in. You can ask to:

We don’t sell personal information or share it for targeted advertising, so there’s nothing to opt out of. You can use the controls in the app or email privacy@withasher.app. We’ll need to confirm your identity before acting on a request.

Appeals. If we deny your request, you can appeal by emailing privacy@withasher.app with “Appeal” in the subject line. We’ll respond within 45 days.

Authorized agents. Someone you authorize can make a request for you. We’ll ask for proof that you gave them permission, and we may ask you to confirm your identity with us directly.

We won’t treat you differently for using any of these rights.

Health details you add

Parents may add health-related details about their children, such as allergies. We use them only to provide the features you ask for, and we don’t sell them. You can edit or delete them at any time.

Export and deletion

Exporting your data

You can request an export in Settings. When it’s ready, you can download it through a secure link that expires after 7 days. Your export includes the shared family information you can access and your own private information. It never includes the other adult’s Private Ask chats.

Deleting your account

You can request account deletion in Settings. The app shows the status of your request.

If you created the family, deleting your account also disconnects every calendar connected in the family and deletes our access tokens. If you joined by invitation, deleting your account doesn’t yet disconnect a Google Calendar you connected, so disconnect it in Settings first. Deleting your account doesn’t cancel a subscription billed through Apple; manage that in your Apple account settings.

After deletion, we keep only limited records we need, such as proof that you confirmed you were an adult and accepted our terms, billing records and security logs, for the periods listed above.

When our staff can access content

Asher isn’t end-to-end encrypted. To answer your questions, use your Handbook and help with Plans, our systems need to process the content you create. We limit who can access it:

This means authorized Asher staff could, in limited and audited circumstances, access content you create, for example to help with a support request you send, investigate abuse or a security issue, fix a problem, or meet a legal obligation.

Analytics and diagnostics

Asher’s analytics are content-free. We record a short list of approved events, such as a feature being opened, with counts, times and a pseudonymous identifier. Analytics never include your chats, names, Handbook or Plans text, email content, email addresses, web addresses or advertising identifiers, and we don’t record your screen or sessions.

Crash reports help us fix problems. They’re scrubbed so they don’t include chat text, names, Handbook or Plans text or sensitive details.

Our website doesn’t use cookies for analytics or advertising. See our Cookie notice.

Where we operate

Asher is available in the United States. We store your information in the United States. Some service providers, such as our analytics provider, may process limited information outside the United States with appropriate safeguards.

Changes to this policy

We’ll update this policy when our practices change and change the date at the top. If a change materially affects how we use your information, we’ll tell you in the app or by email before it takes effect. That includes turning on any feature this edition marks as not available yet.
